Monhegan is one of our favorite places on the planet.   It is the quintessential Maine island, 10 miles offshore in the Gulf of Maine archipelago.  It is a place of rustic simplicity and rugged beauty. Three quarters of the island are forever wild, with 17 miles of trails traversing the serenity of  the Cathedral Woods and bordering the spectacular rocky cliffs at the ocean's edge--the highest cliffs on the Atlantic coast of the United States. In the village, there are picturesque cottages with lovely gardens, a one-room schoolhouse, three hotels, and a simple, grey clapboard church--where we were married 36 years ago. 

We are delighted to return to Monhegan to lead our fourth annual retreat. This intensive retreat is designed to offer couples an opportunity for deep renewal and heart-to-heart reconnection. It is designed to help couples bring their relationship to an entirely new level of awareness, authenticity, intimacy, and fulfillment.

We will help you sustain being present, rebuild and strengthen trust, deepen compassion for each other’s vulnerabilities, use differences to generate energy, heal past hurts, release resentments, create a balance of power between you, and help you deepen your emotional and sexual intimacy. We will also work with the specific issues of your relationship.

Our group will meet in a beautiful and spacious private home, which overlooks the harbor. There will be one session on Friday evening and three sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Couples can stay at The Island Inn which is a two minute walk from the dock and from our workshop location. Rates at The Island Inn range from $130 to $280 per night (depending on view and private or shared bath). The cost of the room includes a sumptuous American breakfast buffet (including scrambled eggs with lobster!). For more information see their website: www.islandinnmonhegan.com. Dinner is also available in their dining room as well as at other hotels on the island. For lunch, there are many places in the village which are convenient. There are also other nearby accommodations that are somewhat less expensive. (Ask us for a list).

The retreat will begin Friday evening and will end Sunday night. You will need to arrive on the island Friday afternoon and can plan to leave on Monday mid-morning. The boat leaves from New Harbor, ME at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 7, and leaves Monhegan Island at 10:15 AM on Monday, October 10. It is essential that you make roundtrip boat reservations well in advance.
